We hope the year of the Dragon brings everyone good health and prosperity. There were nearly 400 Legion family members in attendance at our Lunar New Year dinner celebration and everyone appreciated the festive gathering. It was a very joyous occasion to have an opportunity to meet with our members and celebrate the year of the Dragon.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>We would like to inform our members of the new membership dues increase announced during the 2024 National Convention in Charlotte, NC. The National Executive Committee has approved a $5.00 national per-capita dues increase from $18.50 to $23.50 for Legion Year 2025 effective June 1, 2024. The National Headquarters recognizes the current membership standing and economic situation and in order to continue supporting The American Legion\u2019s ability to serve and advocate for the veterans, U.S. armed forces and youth, the $5.00 membership dues increase is a necessity.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Perhaps most of our members are not familiar with how Legion membership dues are structured. Normally, membership dues are broken down into portions paid to the National, Department, County and Post. With the new $5.00 increase for the National Legion, which would raise the dues for the national portion to $23.50, the Department portion currently is at $16.00, and the County portion is at $3.50. Even though our Post does not collect any dues from our members, the total dues per member the Post will send to the National, Department and County is at $43.00 for the Legion Year of 2025. As a long standing practice, our Post has been subsidizing every member $13.00 and has maintained the Post membership dues at $25.00 last year. In the January membership meeting, membership has unanimously approved that our Post will continue to subsidize every member $13.00 for the coming year and with an increase of $5.00, the new membership dues will be $30.00 effective June 1, 2024.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>The Department membership team has recommended a membership renewal target date for April 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0of 95%. Our Post membership renewal is currently at 84%. With the Legion year ending in a couple of months, it is important that we put in the maximum effort to ensure we reach out to those members who have not yet renewed their membership. The American Legion is the largest veterans\u2019 organization and has the most influential voice in advocating veterans\u2019 issues and benefits on Capitol Hill. It has recorded consistent accomplishments for veterans and their families since 1919. We should also remember, \u201cit is not the price you pay to belong, but the price you paid to be eligible to belong.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Most importantly, the biggest intangible benefit of being a member is the lifelong friendships that are created.\u00a0 That being said, we would like to remind our members once again to remit membership dues to the Post in a timely manner.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Our Post has implemented electronic communication since 2019, and to our surprise; we continue to see some emails being returned as undeliverable.\u00a0 If you have an email address but did not receive the newsletter, it is likely that your email address in our records is no longer valid. To continue to receive future newsletters, it is of utmost importance that we have your current email address.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>We are extremely grateful to Governor\u00a0Houchul\u00a0and the Department of Veterans Services Deputy Commissioner Benjamin\u00a0Promerance\u00a0for honoring the members of the Lt. Kimlau Post 1291; who served in the Vietnam War Era in a special recognition ceremony at Kimlau Post.\u00a0The Vietnam War\u00a0was the longest war in American history and\u00a0was very unpopular with many Americans.\u00a0Anti-war sentiment\u00a0was seen everywhere; many protested against the US involvement in a civil war and many also opposed the draft.\u00a0Even today, many Americans still ask whether the American effort in Vietnam was a sin, a blunder, or even a necessary war.\u00a0The men and women who served did not receive a hero\u2019s welcome when they returned home. Many endured hateful treatment and were told not to dress in a uniform that would convey they were military service men and women due to the hostility they may receive. There were many efforts by the government to right the wrong and start to recognize the sacrifices and brave service by the Vietnam Veterans. Thanks to Governor\u00a0Houchul,\u00a0the Chinese American Vietnam Veterans have finally received their long overdue recognition for their honorable service in the United States Military. Thirty-seven members of our Post were present to receive the proclamation and we are proud of their service and grateful for their recognition.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>We were delighted to hand out nearly 20 scholarship awards in December to recognize deserving students\u2019 hard work in achieving academic success. Please note that in order to make it easier for students to arrange for transcripts to be sent to us while they are still in school the post has revised the scholarship application period.\u00a0 The scholarship application submission period will now be from January 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0to August \u611f\u8b1d\u80e1\u80e1\u723e\u5dde\u9577\uff0c\u83ef\u88d4\u8d8a\u6230\u9000\u4f0d\u8ecd\u4eba\u7d42\u65bc\u56e0\u5728\u7f8e\u570b\u8ecd\u968a\u4e2d\u7684\u5149\u69ae\u670d\u5f79\u800c\u7372\u5f97\u4e86\u9072\u4f86\u7684\u8a8d\u53ef\u3002 \u51fa\u5e2d\u9812\u734e\u5178\u79ae\u7684\u4e09\u5341\u4e03\u540d\u9000\u4f0d\u8ecd\u4eba\u6703\u6210\u54e1\u5c0d\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u670d\u52d9\u611f\u5230\u81ea\u8c6a\uff0c\u4e26\u5c0d\u7372\u5f97\u5728\u8d8a\u6230\u4e2d\u7684\u7121\u79c1\u5949\u737b\u53ca\u5fe0\u52c7\u670d\u52d9\u570b\u5bb6\u7684\u8a8d\u540c\u611f\u5230\u6eff\u610f\u3002<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>\u6211\u5011\u5f88\u9ad8\u8208\u5728\u53bb\u5e74\u5341\u4e8c\u6708\u9812\u767c\u4e86\u4e8c\u5341\u591a\u9805\u734e\u5b78\u91d1\uff0c\u4ee5\u8868\u5f70\u90a3\u4e9b\u70ba\u53d6\u5f97\u5b78\u696d\u6210\u529f\u800c\u4ed8\u51fa\u52aa\u529b\u7684\u512a\u79c0\u5b78\u751f\u3002\u672c\u6703\u70ba\u4e86\u65b9\u4fbf\u5b78\u751f\u7533\u8acb\u734e\u5b78\u91d1\uff0c\u7279\u5225\u4fee\u6539\u63a5\u53d7\u7533\u8acb\u734e\u5b78\u91d1\u671f\u9593\u6539\u70ba\u7531\u4e00\u6708\u4e00\u65e5\u958b\u59cb\u81f3\u516b\u6708\u4e09\u5341\u4e00\u65e5\u622a\u6b62\u3002\u5b78\u751f\u53ef\u5229\u7528\u4ecd\u5728\u4e0a\u8ab2\u6642\u9593\u5411\u5b78\u6821\u8981\u6c42\u5c07\u6210\u7e3e\u8868\u5bc4\u5230\u672c\u6703\uff0c\u4ee5\u907f\u514d\u5728\u653e\u5047\u5f8c\u518d\u5411\u5b78\u6821\u7d22\u53d6\u7684\u7169\u60f1\u3002<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><strong><u>Post
