Hom and Kwack K. Woo mourned the loss of their loved ones, who were declared Missing in Action after serving in World War II. Last September, their long wait for closure ended when both veterans were finally identified through advanced DNA analysis. <strong>Identification and Homecoming<\/strong> of Wing O. Hom, a member of the U. S. Army, perished in Italy during the war. His remains were interred in a foreign cemetery, marked as unidentified. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Defense POW\/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), Wing O. Hom was positively identified. His family, overjoyed at the news, hosted a memorial service in Chinatown to honor his memory <strong>and <\/strong>was laid to rest with full military honors at Greenwood Cemetery. The ceremony was a poignant tribute to his service and sacrifice. The presence of military officials and community leaders underscored the community\u2019s deep respect and gratitude for his contributions. <strong>Identification<\/strong> Just a few months later, another Chinese-American WWII U. S. Army veteran, Kwack K. Woo from Springfield, MA, was identified by the DPAA. Kimlau Post leadership along with members of the Boston Chinatown Post and Seattle Cathay Post, traveled to Springfield to pay their respects to the fallen hero. <strong>A Shared Legacy<\/strong> the identification and honoring of these two WWII veterans are a testament to the enduring legacy of their service. Their stories serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless soldiers, and the importance of honoring their memory. Both veterans were members of a generation that faced unprecedented challenges, and their courage and resilience continue to inspire. <strong>Cynthia Yee, the granddaughter of Kwack K. Woo<\/strong> expressed the family\u2019s gratitude for the unwavering support they received from the community and the military. The identification process and subsequent honors were a collaborative effort that involved numerous individuals and organizations, demonstrating the enduring spirit of camaraderie and respect for those who served their country. The identification of Wing O. Hom and Kwack K. Woo is a bittersweet reminder of the sacrifices made during World War II. Their stories, though tragic, are also a testament to the enduring human spirit and the importance of honoring those who served. As we continue to remember their legacy, let us also recommit ourselves to preserving the memory of all those who have sacrificed for our nation.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>The Kimlau Memorial has been experiencing steady deterioration over the years. Despite numerous requests to the NYC Parks Department dating back to the early 2000s, much-needed repairs have been delayed. The Post has met with the Parks Department on multiple occasions to discuss restoration plans, but these efforts have been repeatedly derailed by other city agencies. Three years ago, the Parks Department promised to conduct an engineering study to determine the root cause of the memorial&#8217;s cracks. Unfortunately, the situation has worsened while the study is being conducted, with large cracks developing in the supporting columns. The city deemed the memorial unsafe, barricaded it for a few months, and subsequently retrofitted it with metal brackets to stabilize it. The Post has repeatedly requested to see the long-awaited engineering study report. A meeting with the Parks Department and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) was held on October 23, 2024, to discuss the report. We were informed that based on the study&#8217;s findings, the Parks Department is prepared to proceed with phased procurements for the restoration. However, the timeline for completing the memorial restoration is contingent upon the redesign of Kimlau Square and the reopening of Park Row, both of which have not yet been finalized.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Our Post also attended the 13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary commemoration ceremony of PVT Danny Chen\u2019s death at the corner of Canal Street and Elizabeth Street where the street was co-named Danny Chen Way.\u00a0Post members joined the Chinatown community and participated in the Republic of China Double Ten Parade in\u00a0Chinatown. In November, the annual Veterans Day Parade took place on Sunday, November 10th, honoring the sacrifices of our veterans and current members of the armed forces. The parade marched through Mott Street to the Kimlau Memorial, where a solemn ceremony was held. Local elected officials and community leaders joined the procession to pay their respects. A highlight of this year&#8217;s parade was the participation of 40 Midshipmen from the Naval Academy members of the Academy&#8217;s Chinese Cultural Club. These young men and women have been a valued part of our Chinatown Veterans Day parade for the past nine years. Additionally, 10 Army Cadets from West Point and 10 cadets from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, joined the march for the second time. We are deeply grateful for their continued support and the enduring friendships we have forged. Our Post hosted a Thanksgiving party on November 17th in the Chairman Peter Woo Auditorium. Over 120 Legion members, Auxiliary members, Sons of American Legion members, and their families gathered to enjoy a festive holiday meal. While the attendance was slightly lower than in previous years due to the building elevator on-going modernization work, the spirit of camaraderie and gratitude filled the room.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>The Kimlau Post Color Guards, a distinguished unit within the American Legion Department of New York, have once again taken the lead in the annual Veterans Day Parade held on Fifth Avenue. This prestigious event, renowned as the largest Veterans Day parade in the nation, is broadcast nationwide, providing a platform to honor and celebrate the service of veterans. The Kimlau Post Color Guards have a long history of participation in this iconic parade. Their dedication and skill have earned them the privilege of leading the American Legion, Department of New York contingent, a testament to their exceptional performance. The unit has previously graced the front page of the Department of New York Legion Magazine, highlighting their significant contributions to the organization. While many members of the Kimlau Post Color Guards are of advanced age, their commitment to serving remains unwavering. They march with pride and honor, demonstrating the enduring spirit and resilience that define veterans. However, the unit is in need of reinforcement as younger members are encouraged to step up and join their ranks. The opportunity to participate in the Veterans Day Parade is not only a source of pride for the Kimlau Post Color Guards but also a chance to showcase their unit&#8217;s excellence to a national audience. By leading the parade, they are setting a powerful example for others and honoring the sacrifices made by veterans throughout history. The Post realizes the cost of the color guard uniform is substantial; a reimbursement program to offset the cost has been instituted for many years. If you are interested in joining this proud and patriotic unit, please contact Post Headquarters for more information.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Our scholarship program has been a great success over the years and the academic achievements of our children and grandchildren should be a great source of pride for all of us.\u00a0Since the scholarship program was revived in 2005, we have awarded over 280 scholarships to children and grandchildren of our members.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>We sincerely thank the families of Maj. Stanley Lee and Charlie Chu for making donations to create scholarships in memory of our long time members. We also want to thank our member Dung Hon Leung for\u00a0his\u00a0continuing support of the Post scholarship program by donating a total of $8,000 over the last six years. The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage members and member&#8217;s progeny for higher education. The \u201cMaj. Stanley Lee Memorial Scholarship\u201d of $1,000, is in its sixth year of a ten-year program and was awarded to Sara R. Ng, granddaughter of Jack Y. F. Ng\u00a0and the \u201cDung\u00a0Hon Leung Scholarship&#8221; of $1,000 was awarded to Willie Chen, son of Stanley Chen.<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>We were pleased to hand out the above awards, as well as the Post Scholarship awards (equal to $700 each) to fifteen well deserving recipients during the recent Post annual Christmas party. We would like to congratulate them all on their outstanding achievement and wish them continued success in their future endeavors. Please note that the post has revised the scholarship application period to allow students to submit their scholarship applications from January 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0to August \u9858\u60a8\u7684\u5bb6\u5145\u6eff\u8212\u9069\u3001\u5e73\u5b89\u548c\u5e78\u798f\u3002\u8fb2\u6b77\u65b0\u5e74\u5c07\u81f3\uff0c\u5728\u6b64\u8b39\u795d\u5927\u5bb6\u5fc3\u60f3\u4e8b\u6210\uff0c\u8eab\u9ad4\u5065\u5eb7\uff0c\u5bb6\u5ead\u548c\u7766\uff0c\u751f\u6d3b\u6109\u5feb\uff0c\u86c7\u5e74\u884c\u597d\u904b\u3002\u65b0\u7684\u4e00\u5e74\u5e36\u4f86\u4e86\u65b0\u7684\u5e0c\u671b\uff0c\u4ea6\u5e36\u4f86\u4e86\u8208\u596e\u7684\u5fc3\u60c5\u4f86\u8fce\u63a5\u4eca\u5e74\u5fd9\u788c\u7684\u6311\u6230\u3002<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>\u6578\u5341\u5e74\u4f86\uff0c\u8b5a\u5440\u52c7\u53ca\u80e1\u570b\u826f\u7684\u5bb6\u4eba\u4e00\u76f4\u5728\u54c0\u60bc\u4ed6\u5011\u5728\u7b2c\u4e8c\u6b21\u4e16\u754c\u5927\u6230\u6642\u88ab\u5ba3\u5e03\u5728\u6230\u5834\u4e2d\u5931\u8e64\u7684\u89aa\u4eba\uff0c\u5728\u53bb\u5e74\u4e5d\u6708\uff0c\u9019\u5169\u540d\u5728\u6230\u5834\u4e2d\u5931\u8e64\u7684\u52c7\u58eb\u6700\u7d42\u901a\u904e\u5148\u9032\u7684\u6280\u8853\u7dda\u7c92\u9ad4\u5206\u6790\u5f8c\u78ba\u8a8d\u5f8c\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u7d42\u65bc\u5f97\u5230\u5b89\u606f\u53ca\u4e00\u500b\u7d42\u7d50\u3002\u4e8c\u6230\u6642\u670d\u5f79\u9678\u8ecd\u7684\u8b5a\u5440\u52c7\u5728\u610f\u5927\u5229\u9663\u4ea1\uff0c\u4ed6\u7684\u907a\u9ad4\u88ab\u57cb\u846c\u5728\u5916\u570b\u4eba\u7684\u5893\u5730\uff0c\u6a19\u8a18\u70ba\u8eab\u4efd\u4e0d\u660e\u3002\u7531\u65bc\u7f8e\u570b\u570b\u9632\u90e8\u6230\u4fd8\u53ca\u5931\u8e64\u6230\u58eb\u7d71\u8a08\u5c40\u7684\u4e0d\u61c8\u52aa\u529b\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u80fd\u5920\u78ba\u8a8d\u8b5a\u5440\u52c7\u7684\u8eab\u4efd\u3002\u4ed6\u7684\u5bb6\u4eba\u5f97\u77e5\u9019\u500b\u6d88\u606f\u6b23\u559c\u82e5\u72c2\uff0c\u5728\u83ef\u57e0\u8209\u8fa6\u7d00\u5ff5\u8ffd\u60bc\u6703\uff0c\u7f8e\u570b\u5b98\u65b9\u4e26\u4ee5\u9686\u91cd\u7684\u8ecd\u4e8b\u69ae\u8b7d\u5c07\u4ed6\u7684\u907a\u9ad4\u5b89\u846c\u65bc\u683c\u6797\u6d3b\u58b3\u57f8\u3002\u9019\u6b21\u5b89\u846c\u5100\u5f0f\u7a81\u986f\u4e86\u653f\u5e9c\u53ca\u793e\u5340\u4eba\u58eb\u5c0d\u4ed6\u70ba\u570b\u72a7\u7272\u6df1\u5207\u81f4\u656c\u53ca\u611f\u8b1d\u4ed6\u5c0d\u570b\u5bb6\u7684\u8ca2\u737b\u3002\u50c5\u50c5\u5e7e\u500b\u6708\u5f8c\uff0c\u7f8e\u570b\u570b\u9632\u90e8\u6230\u4fd8\u53ca\u5931\u8e64\u6230\u58eb\u518d\u6b21\u78ba\u8a8d\u4e86\u53e6\u4e00\u4f4d\u5728\u4e8c\u6230\u9663\u4ea1\u7684\u8ecd\u4eba\uff0c\u80e1\u570b\u826f\u662f\u4f86\u81ea\u9ebb\u5dde\u3002\u672c\u6703\u4e3b\u5e2d\u53ca\u6703\u54e1\uff0c\u6ce2\u58eb\u9813\u9000\u4f0d\u8ecd\u4eba\u6703\u53ca\u897f\u96c5\u5716\u9000\u4f0d\u8ecd\u4eba\u6703\u4ea6\u6d3e\u54e1\u53c3\u8207\u5728\u9ebb\u5dde\u8ecd\u4e8b\u69ae\u8b7d\u5b89\u846c\u7684\u5100\u5f0f\uff0c\u5411\u9019\u4f4d\u9663\u4ea1\u82f1\u96c4\u81f4\u5d69\u9ad8\u656c\u610f\u3002\u4ed6\u5011\u70ba\u570b\u72a7\u7272\uff0c\u6c38\u5b58\u4e0d\u673d\uff0c\u66f4\u63d0\u9192\u6211\u5011\u7121\u6578\u7684\u82f1\u52c7\u6230\u58eb\u72a7\u7272\u53ca\u5c0d\u7d00\u5ff5\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u91cd\u8981\u3002\u80e1\u570b\u826f\u5b6b\u5973\u5728\u8ffd\u60bc\u6703\u4e2d\u81f4\u8a5e\u5c0d\u570b\u5bb6\u4e26\u6c92\u6709\u907a\u5fd8\u9663\u4ea1\u52c7\u58eb\u53ca\u5404\u9000\u4f0d\u8ecd\u4eba\u9060\u9053\u800c\u4f86\u81f4\u656c\uff0c\u611f\u8b1d\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u652f\u6301\u53ca\u5c0a\u91cd\u8ecd\u4eba\u7684\u60b2\u6158\u72a7\u7272\u3002<\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>\u56e0\u70ba\u7d10\u7d04\u516c\u5712\u7ba1\u7406\u5c40\u591a\u5e74\u5ffd\u8996\u5c0d\u9000\u4f0d\u8ecd\u4eba\u5fe0\u70c8\u574a\u61c9\u505a\u7684\u7dad\u4fee\uff0c\u5fe0\u70c8\u574a\u8fd1\u5e74\u5df2\u73fe\u7834\u843d\u800c\u5176\u7d50\u69cb\u66f4\u662f\u6bcf\u6cc1\u6108\u4e0b\uff0c\u81ea\u4e8c\u96f6\u96f6\u96f6\u5e74\u81f3\u4eca\u65e5\uff0c\u5118\u7ba1\u672c\u6703\u5c62\u6b21\u8acb\u6c42\u6025\u9700\u7dad\u4fee\u5de5\u4f5c\u53ca\u66fe\u591a\u6b21\u6703\u8b70\u8a0e\u8ad6\u7dad\u4fee\u8a08\u5283\uff0c\u4f46\u4ecd\u88ab\u516c\u5712\u7ba1\u7406\u5c40\u62d6\u5ef6\u3002\u76f4\u81f3\u4e09\u5e74\u524d\uff0c\u516c\u5712\u7ba1\u7406\u5c40\u627f\u8afe\u9032\u884c\u6df1\u5165\u5de5\u7a0b\u7814\u7a76\uff0c\u4ee5\u78ba\u5b9a\u5fe0\u70c8\u574a\u652f\u67f1\u51fa\u73fe\u88c2\u7e2b\u7684\u6839\u672c\u539f\u56e0\uff0c\u4f46\u5728\u9019\u4e09\u5e74\u4e2d\uff0c\u652f\u67f1\u7684\u88c2\u75d5\u60e1\u5316\uff0c\u88c2\u7e2b\u8b8a\u5f97\u8d8a\u4f86\u8d8a\u5927\uff0c\u5e02\u5e9c\u5224\u65b7\u5fe0\u70c8\u574a\u70ba\u4e0d\u5b89\u5168\u5efa\u7bc9\u7269\uff0c\u4ee5\u9435\u99ac\u8def\u969c\u5305\u570d\u5fe0\u70c8\u574a\u9632\u6b62\u884c\u4eba\u53d7\u50b7\uff0c\u96a8\u5f8c\u7528\u9435\u67b6\u5305\u8457\u652f\u67f1\u88c2\u7e2b\uff0c\u7a69\u5b9a\u574a\u70c8\u574a\u4e0d\u6703\u6389\u843d\u3002\u672c\u6703\u591a\u6b21\u8981\u6c42\u67e5\u770b\u671f\u5f85\u5df2\u4e45\u7684\u5de5\u7a0b\u7814\u7a76\u5831\u544a\uff0c\u7d42\u65bc\u5728\u4eca\u5e74\u5341\u6708\u4e8c\u5341\u4e09\u65e5\uff0c\u516c\u5712\u7ba1\u7406\u5c40\u53ca\u7d10\u7d04\u5e02\u7d93\u6fdf\u767c\u5c55\u8655\u6703\u9762\u8a0e\u8ad6\u5de5\u7a0b\u7814\u7a76\u5831\u544a\uff0c\u7372\u6089\u4ed6\u5011\u8a8d\u70ba\u53ef\u4ee5\u5206\u968e\u6bb5\u4fee\u5fa9\u5fe0\u70c8\u
