We extend our sincere wishes for a wonderful Holiday Season filled with health and happiness to you and your loved ones; may your home be filled with comfort and peace.\u00a0The Lunar New Year is right around the corner and we wish you and your families a happy, healthy, safe, and prosperous New Year, the year of the Horse.<\/span><\/p>

Following the tremendous success of our inaugural cruise to Bermuda two years ago, the Kimlau Post organized another exciting cruise trip, this time to the beautiful Bahamas. Forty members and their families participated in this fun-filled journey aboard the Symphony of the Seas, enjoying another unforgettable travel experience together. Post members were blessed with marvelous weather and calm seas throughout the voyage. Everyone felt extremely fortunate, fully aware of the risks of cruising the Caribbean during September, the heart of hurricane season. In fact, Tropical Storm Imelda formed and intensified into a hurricane shortly after the group disembarked, making their smooth and safe journey even more remarkable. As expected, the cruise offered plenty of good food, spectacular stage shows, and endless entertainment. Members enjoyed a wide variety of activities suited to every taste, from exciting on-board attractions to simply relaxing and taking in the ocean views.<\/span><\/p>

One of the most memorable highlights was a special ceremony honoring veterans on board, presided over by the Cruise Director. The ship\u2019s grand atrium was filled with veterans and their families, proudly saluting a giant American flag suspended from the ceiling. The ceremony featured a moving rendition of the National Anthem and a solemn playing of \u201cTaps,\u201d creating an emotional and unifying moment for all present. Post members also enjoyed a sunny beach day at Royal Caribbean\u2019s private island Coco Cay and visited several famous landmarks in Nassau, Bahamas. Overall, it was a joyful and memorable cruise filled with laughter, camaraderie, and shared appreciation for one another, a perfect continuation of the Kimlau Post\u2019s spirit of fellowship and adventure.<\/span><\/p>

After months of delays, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation has finally commenced work on the long-awaited renovation of the Kimlau Memorial. In late September, protective wooden construction fences were installed around the monument to secure the site. The project is now officially underway, with a projected completion date of July 2026. As reported in previous newsletters, the Kimlau Memorial restoration is an independent initiative, separate from the broader Chinatown Connection Project, which includes the redesign of Kimlau Square and the reopening of Park Row.<\/span><\/p>

Over the years, the Kimlau Memorial has experienced steady deterioration. Despite numerous requests to the Parks Department dating back to the early 2000s, essential repairs were repeatedly postponed. The Post has met with city officials on several occasions to advocate for restoration, but progress was often stalled by inter-agency coordination issues. Three years ago, the Parks Department commissioned an engineering study to determine the root cause of the memorial\u2019s structural cracks. Unfortunately, while the study was being conducted, the condition of the monument worsened, with large cracks appearing in the supporting columns. The city eventually deemed the structure unsafe, temporarily barricaded the area, and installed metal brackets to stabilize it. The Post has persistently requested access to the engineering study\u2019s findings. A follow-up meeting with representatives from the Parks Department and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) was held on October 23, 2024, where the study results were finally discussed. Based on the findings, the Parks Department confirmed plans to move forward with phased procurement to complete the full restoration. The Post will continue to monitor the progress of this long-overdue project and keep our members informed of key developments as work advances toward restoring the Kimlau Memorial to its original dignity and condition.<\/span><\/p>

Our Post also attended the 14<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0anniversary commemoration ceremony of PVT Danny Chen\u2019s death at the corner of Canal Street and Elizabeth Street where the street was co-named Danny Chen Way. The Lt. B.R. Kimlau Chinese Memorial Post 1291 participated in the annual Double-Ten Parade through the streets of Chinatown. The day\u2019s celebration began with a solemn flag-raising ceremony in front of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA), followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Dr. Sun Yat-sen statue in Columbus Park to honor the founding father of the Republic of China and recognize his lasting contributions to freedom and democracy. The parade commenced at 5:00 pm, filling the neighborhood with vibrant colors, patriotic spirit, and community pride. Following the parade, more than 70 members of the American Legion family gathered for a festive dinner at Sun Hong Wong Restaurant. It was a joyful evening of camaraderie and celebration. On October 19, 2025, a delegation from the Taiwan Veterans Affairs Council, Republic of China, led by Deputy Minister, retired Lieutenant General Fu Cheng Cheng visited our Post. The Veterans Affairs Council has maintained regular contact with us, with their last visit two years ago. We share a common mission, supporting veterans through transition services, healthcare, employment, and dignified aging. During the visit, the delegation presented gifts to our members and invited our Post to visit Taiwan to strengthen ties. We deeply appreciated the exchange and look forward to continued cooperation with Taiwan\u2019s veterans organizations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In November, the annual Veterans Day Parade was held on Sunday, November 9th, to honor the sacrifices of our veterans and active members of the armed forces. The parade proceeded along Mott Street and concluded at the Kimlau Memorial, where a solemn ceremony took place. Local elected officials and community leaders participated in the procession to pay their respects. Unfortunately, this year\u2019s parade was missing the presence of the Midshipmen from the Naval Academy and the Cadets from West Point and New London due to the government shutdown. We remain sincerely grateful for the Midshipmen\u2019s and Cadets\u2019 participation in past years and look forward to welcoming them back next year to continue the strong friendships we have built together.<\/span><\/p>

On November 19th, our Post attended the Chinatown Business Improvement District (Chinatown BID) fundraising gala held at the House of Joy Restaurant. Once an annual highlight that brought together leaders and supporters from across the Chinatown community, the event had been paused since the onset of COVID. This year marked its long-awaited return after six years, even though on a smaller scale due to limited venue capacity in Chinatown. Our Post is proud to be a charter member of the Chinatown BID. Past National Sergeant-at-Arms David Louie served as the organization\u2019s inaugural chairman, followed by Adjutant Gabe Mui, who led as chairman for five consecutive years. Adjutant Mui continues to represent our Post on the Chinatown BID Board of Directors, remaining actively involved in matters vital to the Chinatown community. He currently serves on several key subcommittees; including governance, finance, auditing, and programming, and chairs the nominations committee. Chinatown residents and community leaders recognize the importance of maintaining a clean, safe, and vibrant neighborhood to ensure its continued survival and prosperity. Our Post was among the early advocates supporting the creation of the BID, participating in its planning and testifying before the New York City Council on the need for such an organization in Chinatown. Since its establishment, the Chinatown BID has launched numerous initiatives to improve the quality of life in the area. These include installing better street lighting and security cameras, organizing annual flower plantings to beautify the neighborhood, and championing the Open Streets program to provide residents with safe spaces to gather, relax, and enjoy their community.<\/span><\/p>

Our Post also hosted its annual Thanksgiving celebration on November 16th in the Chairman Peter Woo Auditorium, close to 200 members of the Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and their families came together to share a joyful holiday meal. Our scholarship program continues to be an outstanding success, and we take immense pride in the academic achievements of our members\u2019 children and grandchildren. Since the program\u2019s reinstatement in 2005, nearly 300 scholarships have been presented to deserving recipients from our Post family. At the annual Christmas celebration on December 14th, the Scholarship Committee proudly recognized 17 outstanding students who demonstrated exceptional academic excellence in their studies.<\/span><\/p>

We sincerely thank the families of Maj. Stanley Lee for making donations to create scholarships in memory of our long time members. We also want to thank our member Dung Hon Leung for\u00a0his\u00a0continuing support of the Post scholarship program by donating a total of $9,000 over the last seven years. The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage members and member’s progeny for higher education. The \u201cMaj. Stanley Lee Memorial Scholarship\u201d of $1,000, is in its seventh year of a ten-year program and was awarded to Nicole Hom, daughter of Wayne Hom\u00a0and the \u201cDung\u00a0Hon Leung Scholarship” of $1,000 was awarded to Alexander Tucker, grandson of New Wong.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span>We were pleased to hand out the above awards, as well as the Post Scholarship awards (equal to $700 each) to fifteen well deserving recipients during the recent Post annual Christmas party. We would like to congratulate them all on their outstanding achievement and wish them continued success in their future endeavors. Please note that the post has revised the scholarship application period to allow students to submit their scholarship applications from January 1<\/span>st<\/span>\u00a0to August 31<\/span>st<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

\u6211\u5011\u8877\u5fc3\u795d\u798f\u7bc0\u65e5\u5e36\u7d66\u5927\u5bb6\u5065\u5eb7\u548c\u5e78\u798f\u3002\u6211\u5011\u5411\u60a8\u548c\u60a8\u7684\u89aa\u4eba\u81f4\u4ee5\u6700\u8aa0\u646f\u7684\u795d\u798f\uff1b \u9858\u60a8\u7684\u5bb6\u5145\u6eff\u8212\u9069\u3001\u5e73\u5b89\u548c\u5e78\u798f\u3002\u8fb2\u6b77\u65b0\u5e74\u5c07\u81f3\uff0c\u5728\u6b64\u8b39\u795d\u5927\u5bb6\u5fc3\u60f3\u4e8b\u6210\uff0c\u8eab\u9ad4\u5065\u5eb7\uff0c\u5bb6\u5ead\u548c\u7766\uff0c\u751f\u6d3b\u6109\u5feb\uff0c<\/span>\u99ac<\/span>\u5e74\u884c\u597d\u904b\u3002\u65b0\u7684\u4e00\u5e74\u5e36\u4f86\u4e86\u65b0\u7684\u5e0c\u671b\uff0c\u4ea6\u5e36\u4f86\u4e86\u8208\u596e\u7684\u5fc3\u60c5\u4f86\u8fce\u63a5\u4eca\u5e74\u5fd9\u788c\u7684\u6311\u6230\u3002<\/span><\/p>

\u7d93\u904e\u6578\u6708\u7684\u5ef6\u8aa4\uff0c\u7d10\u7d04\u516c\u5712\u7ba1\u7406\u5c40\u7d42\u65bc\u5c55\u958b\u671f\u76fc\u5df2\u4e45\u7684\u9000\u4f0d\u8ecd\u4eba\u5fe0\u70c8\u574a\u61c9\u505a\u7684\u7dad\u4fee\u5de5\u7a0b\uff0c\u4e5d\u6708\u5e95\uff0c\u65bd\u5de5\u55ae\u4f4d\u5728\u5fe0\u70c8\u574a\u5468\u570d\u8a2d\u7f6e\u6728\u570d\u6b04\u4ee5\u78ba\u4fdd\u5de5\u5730\u5b89\u5168\uff0c\u6a19\u8a8c\u8457\u5de5\u7a0b\u6b63\u5f0f\u555f\u52d5\u3002\u9810\u8a08\u7dad\u4fee\u5de5\u7a0b\u5c07\u65bc\u4e8c\u96f6\u4e8c\u96f6\u516d\u5e74\u4e03\u6708\u5b8c\u5de5\u3002\u5982\u524d\u5e7e\u671f\u901a\u8a0a\u6240\u5831\u5c0e\uff0c\u9000\u4f0d\u8ecd\u4eba\u5fe0\u70c8\u574a\u7684\u4fee\u5fa9\u8a08\u756b\u5c6c\u65bc\u7368\u7acb\u5de5\u7a0b\uff0c\u8207\u66f4\u5927\u7bc4\u570d\u7684\u300c\u83ef\u57e0\u9023\u7d50\u8a08\u756b\u300d\u5206\u958b\u9032\u884c\uff0c\u5f8c\u8005\u5305\u62ec\u91cd\u5efa\u5289\u9326\u5ee3\u5834\u53ca\u958b\u653e\u67cf\u8def\u3002<\/span><\/p>

\u672c\u6703\u6703\u54e1\u53c3\u52a0\u5728\u5341\u6708\u521d\u5728\u83ef\u57e0\u5805\u5c3c\u8def\u53ca\u4f0a\u5229\u6c99\u767d\u8857\u8857\u89d2\u8209\u8fa6\u7684\u9673\u5b87\u6689\u901d\u4e16\u5341<\/span>\u56db<\/span>\u9031\u5e74\u7d00\u5ff5\u3002\u4f9d\u5f80\u5e74\u4e00\u6a23\uff0c\u672c\u6703\u53c3\u52a0\u4e2d\u83ef\u6c11\u570b\u96d9\u5341\u570b\u6176\u904a\u884c\u3002\u7576\u5929\u7684\u6176\u795d\u6d3b\u52d5\u4ee5\u838a\u56b4\u7684\u5347\u65d7\u5178\u79ae\u63ed\u958b\u5e8f\u5e55\uff0c\u5730\u9ede\u8a2d\u65bc\u4e2d\u83ef\u516c\u6240\u9580\u524d\uff0c\u96a8\u5f8c\u65bc\u54e5\u502b\u5e03\u516c\u5712\u7684\u570b\u7236\u5b6b\u4e2d\u5c71\u5148\u751f\u9285\u50cf\u524d\u8209\u884c\u737b\u82b1\u5100\u5f0f\uff0c\u4ee5\u8868\u9054\u5c0d\u4e2d\u83ef\u6c11\u570b\u570b\u7236\u7684\u5d07\u9ad8\u656c\u610f\uff0c\u4e26\u7dec\u61f7\u4ed6\u5c0d\u81ea\u7531\u8207\u6c11\u4e3b\u7684\u5049\u5927\u8ca2\u737b\u3002\u4e0b\u5348\u4e94\u6642\uff0c\u904a\u884c\u6b63\u5f0f\u958b\u59cb\uff0c\u4e94\u5f69\u65d7\u5e5f\u98c4\u63da\u3002\u904a\u884c\u5f8c\u672c\u6703\u6703\u54e1\u9f4a\u805a\u65b0\u9d3b\u65fa\u9152\u5bb6\u5171\u9032\u665a\u5bb4\uff0c\u5e2d\u9593\u6d0b\u6ea2\u8457\u6fc3\u539a\u7684\u53cb\u8abc\u8207\u6b61\u6176\u3002<\/span><\/p>
